Giving Voice to Depression

NEW_Ep. 368 Softening to the Darkness: Eric’s Story of Acceptance and Healing

Giving Voice to Depression

In this gentle, insightful episode, Eric shares his raw and powerful story of living with a lifelong depression he once imagined as an invisible boulder crushing his spirit.

Instead of continuing the exhausting quest to eliminate his pain, Eric began to befriend it—shifting from analysis to emotional healing. Through Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, he discovered that the boulder symbolized a part of him trying to protect his innocence and inner child.

He learned to speak with (vs. resist) it, and occasionally invite it to rest.

Eric’s transformation didn’t come from erasing his depression, but from softening into it, accepting it as a part of him, and listening to what it was trying to say.

In doing so, he unearthed peace, faith, and a more-grounded sense of self. Eric offers a hopeful message: that healing isn’t about being cured, but about becoming whole—even when it hurts.

Listeners will walk away with a richer understanding of the nuances of depression, and the gentle yet radical power of self-compassion.
